What is the Old Testament about?
How do Christians understand it?
For the earliest Christians, "The Scriptures" were what we now call "The Old Testament". Far from being a history book, Christians knew that the Scriptures speak of Jesus Christ, the Crucified and Risen One.
Through the weekend, Dr John Behr (Regius Professor of Humanity at the University of Aberdeen and a scholar of Early Christian Writing) will help us to hear the Scriptures in an ancient way - which is also very fresh to our ears!
We begin by studying a text written about 170AD "On Pascha" by Melito of Sardis, which was read on Easter Eve. Through the weekend we will explore the Scriptures and the writings of early Christians and how they can help us to read the Old Testament in a fresh way.
